Societé des Amis des Noirs

The Société des Amis des Noirs (Society of Friends of the Blacks) was a French organization founded in 1788 that aimed to promote abolitionist ideas and improve the conditions of enslaved Africans. It sought to raise awareness about the injustices of slavery and supported campaigns for its end. Although it faced opposition, especially from pro-slavery interests, the society contributed to the growing movement in France advocating for the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade and slavery itself, influencing public opinion and policy leading up to the eventual abolition of slavery in French colonies.
