Sociedad de Mayo
The Sociedad de Mayo was a political group formed in Buenos Aires in 1810, during Argentina’s struggle for independence from Spain. It played a key role in organizing protests and pushing for local self-governance, leading to the May Revolution, which marked the beginning of Argentina’s move toward independence. The society consisted of influential local leaders and militia members who wanted greater Argentine autonomy and challenged royal authority, laying the groundwork for the establishment of a new government free from Spanish control.
