Social Democratic Party (UK)

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) was a political party in the UK founded in 1981 by a group of Labour Party members who disagreed with its direction. They promoted moderate, centrist policies emphasizing social justice, economic prudence, and reform of public services. The SDP aimed to offer an alternative to both the Labour and Conservative parties by advocating for a balanced approach to social and economic issues. In 1988, it merged with others to form the Social and Liberal Democrats, later becoming the Liberal Democrats. The SDP played a key role in shaping centrist politics during the 1980s.
