Société du spectacle
The "Société du spectacle" (Society of the Spectacle) is a concept by philosopher Guy Debord that describes how modern society has shifted from active participation to passive observation. In this world, images, media, and consumer culture dominate, creating a reality shaped more by representations than authentic human experiences. People increasingly relate to the world through spectacles—mass media, advertising, and entertainment—leading to a fragmented society where true social interactions are replaced by mediated images. Debord warns that this spectacle affects our perceptions, reducing genuine engagement and fostering a sense of alienation.
