Société des Amis des Noirs
The Société des Amis des Noirs was a French organization founded in 1788 that advocated for the abolition of slavery and greater rights for Black people. It promoted ideas of human equality and worked to raise awareness about the inhumane treatment of enslaved Africans. Though its influence was limited initially, it helped shape public opinion and contributed to France’s eventual decision to abolish slavery in its colonies in 1794. The society reflected Enlightenment ideals of justice and human rights, playing a role in advancing anti-slavery movements in France.
