Société d'Etudes du Canal de Suez
The Société d'Etudes du Canal de Suez was a company formed in the mid-19th century to plan and oversee the construction of the Suez Canal in Egypt. It brought together engineers, investors, and officials to design and build this crucial maritime route that connects the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The canal significantly shortened shipping times between Europe and Asia, boosting international trade. After completing the canal in 1869, the company managed its operations until control was transferred to the Egyptian government in 1956. The Société played a key role in turning the canal from an ambitious project into one of the world's most vital maritime infrastructure.
