Soap-making process

Soap-making involves a chemical process called saponification, where fats or oils are combined with an alkaline substance, typically lye (sodium hydroxide). When mixed, a reaction occurs, transforming the fats into soap and glycerin. The process is usually done in a few steps: measuring ingredients accurately, carefully mixing the lye with water, then combining it with warmed oils. The mixture is blended until it thickens, poured into molds, and allowed to cure for several weeks. This results in a solid bar of soap that can be customized with fragrances and colors. Safety precautions are essential due to lye's caustic nature.
