SNORD family
The SNORD family, also known as small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), are tiny RNA molecules that play a crucial role in the cell by helping to modify and process other RNA molecules, especially ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs). They act as guides, directing chemical modifications that are essential for the proper assembly and function of ribosomes—the cell’s protein factories. SNORDs are highly conserved and mainly found in the nucleolus, a substructure within the nucleus where ribosomes are assembled. Their precise function is vital for maintaining healthy cell activity and protein production.
