SNews (Supernova Early Warning System)
Supernova Early Warning System (SNEWS) is an international network that detects the earliest signs of a supernova — a massive star explosion. It relies on a network of sensitive detectors around the world that monitor neutrinos, tiny particles released in huge numbers during a star's core collapse. When several detectors observe a sudden burst of neutrinos simultaneously, SNEWS issues an alert to astronomers worldwide. This early warning allows scientists to quickly observe the event across various wavelengths, gaining valuable insights into the life cycles of stars and the fundamental processes of the universe.
