Snake River Plain
The Snake River Plain is a large, flat, and broad valley in southern Idaho, formed by volcanic activity over millions of years. It stretches roughly 400 miles from eastern Oregon across southern Idaho. The plain features volcanic features like lava flows and calderas, resulting from eruptions associated with a stationary hot spot in Earth's crust. This activity created the fertile land and unique landscape, making it an important agricultural and geological region. The Snake River, Idaho’s major waterway, runs through the plain, contributing to its lushness and supporting diverse ecosystems and communities.
