Smriti texts
Smriti texts are a category of ancient Indian scriptures that serve as remembered or traditional writings, complementing the Shruti (revealed) texts like the Vedas. They include guides on dharma (righteousness), law, ethics, mythology, and rituals, shaping how people live and practice their faith. Examples are the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Dharmashastra texts. Unlike Shruti, which are considered divine revelations, Smriti are authored by humans based on tradition and interpretation, providing practical wisdom and cultural values that continue to influence Indian society and spiritual practice.
