SMM (Smoldering Multiple Myeloma)

Smoldering Multiple Myeloma (SMM) is an early, asymptomatic stage of a blood disorder where abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow produce too much of a specific protein. Unlike active multiple myeloma, SMM doesn’t cause symptoms or organ damage yet. It’s identified through blood tests or bone marrow exams showing elevated abnormal cells without indicating immediate harm. While it doesn't require treatment right away, SMM can progress to active myeloma over time, so close monitoring is essential to catch any signs of progression early.
