Smith Commission
The Smith Commission was established in 2014 to address the Scottish independence referendum's outcome. It was a partnership between the UK and Scottish governments, led by Lord Smith of Kelvin, to develop powers for the Scottish Parliament. The goal was to grant Scotland additional responsibilities, such as control over income taxes, welfare policies, and other areas, to give Scotland more autonomy while remaining part of the UK. The commission's work resulted in a significant devolution of powers, aiming to accommodate Scottish national identity and preferences within the United Kingdom's constitutional framework.
