Smell receptors
Smell receptors are specialized nerve cells located in the nasal cavity that detect airborne molecules called odorants. When these molecules bind to receptors on the nerve cells, they trigger electrical signals sent to the brain. The brain then interprets these signals as specific smells. Each receptor type is sensitive to different molecules, allowing us to distinguish a wide variety of odors. This system is highly organized and complex, enabling humans to perceive and differentiate countless scents in our environment.
