Smear test
A smear test, also known as a Pap smear, is a screening procedure to detect abnormal cells in the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus. During the test, a healthcare provider gently collects cells from the cervix using a small brush or spatula. These cells are then examined under a microscope to identify any changes that might indicate infections, inflammation, or precancerous conditions. The test helps catch and treat issues early, especially cervical cancer, before symptoms develop. It is usually part of routine cervical health checks for women.
