SLAP tear (Superior Labrum Anterior and Posterior tear)
A SLAP tear is an injury to the top part of the shoulder's labrum, which is a ring of cartilage that surrounds the socket of the shoulder joint. The “superior” refers to the upper part, while “anterior and posterior” describe the front and back parts. This tear often occurs from overhead activities, sudden trauma, or repetitive shoulder movement. It can cause pain, a feeling of instability, weakness, or a catching sensation in the shoulder. Treatment may include physical therapy or, in some cases, surgery to repair the torn cartilage and restore shoulder stability.
