SLAP (Superior Labrum Anterior and Posterior) tear

A SLAP tear involves damage to the ring of cartilage, called the labrum, that surrounds the top part of the shoulder socket. This labrum helps keep the shoulder stable and attaches important ligaments and the long head of the biceps tendon. A tear occurs in the front (anterior) and back (posterior) parts of this region, often caused by injury or repetitive shoulder movements. Symptoms can include shoulder pain, especially with overhead activities, weakness, and a catching sensation. Treatment may range from rest and physical therapy to surgical repair, depending on the severity of the tear.
