Skylab space station
Skylab was the United States' first space station, launched by NASA in 1973. It served as an orbiting laboratory where astronauts conducted scientific experiments in microgravity, studied Earth's atmosphere, and observed the Sun. Skylab was powered by solar panels and had living quarters, laboratories, and a solar telescope. It orbited Earth about 250 miles above the surface until it re-entered the atmosphere in 1979. Skylab helped scientists understand how humans and equipment perform in space, paving the way for future space stations like the International Space Station.
