Skimmers
Skimmers are small electronic devices installed secretly on ATMs or card readers that capture the information stored on stripe cards, such as debit or credit cards. When you insert your card, the skimmer reads the data from the magnetic strip without your knowledge. Criminals then retrieve the skimmer and use or sell the stolen card information for fraudulent transactions. These devices often look like part of the legitimate equipment, making them difficult to detect. To stay safe, always check for any unusual devices or loose parts before using an ATM or card reader, and monitor your account statements regularly.
