SKIM Model

The SKIM Model is a framework for understanding how we process and prioritize information during reading or learning. It stands for Speed, Knowledge, Interest, and Mechanics. Essentially, it suggests that our reading speed and comprehension are influenced by our prior knowledge, interest level, and familiarity with reading mechanics. When these factors are aligned, we can quickly and efficiently grasp key ideas, filtering out less important details. The model helps identify ways to improve reading skills by focusing on building knowledge, maintaining interest, and mastering reading mechanics, leading to better comprehension and more effective learning.
