Skeleton Key

A skeleton key is a special type of master key designed to open many different locks, typically those of a similar or compatible type. Instead of having multiple keys for different locks, a skeleton key has a simplified design that can manipulate the lock's internal mechanism to unlock it. Historically used by locksmiths and janitors, they provide access to various locks without needing individual keys. Modern lock systems often use more complex security features, making skeleton keys less common today. Nonetheless, they remain a notable example of key design for universal access within a specific lock set.
