Skeletal Muscles

Skeletal muscles are the muscles attached to bones that facilitate movement and maintain posture. Composed of many long, fibrous cells called muscle fibers, they contract when stimulated by nerves, generating force. These muscles are voluntary, meaning you control them consciously. They work in pairs—when one contracts, the other relaxes—to enable movements such as walking, lifting, and bending. Skeletal muscles also play a vital role in generating heat and stabilizing joints. Their strong, flexible nature makes them essential for nearly all physical activity and body support.
