Skeletal muscle regeneration is the process by which damaged muscle tissue repairs itself. When muscle fibers are injured, specialized stem cells called satellite cells become activated, multiply, and then fuse to form new muscle fibers or repair existing ones. This process involves inflammation to clear debris, followed by the growth of new cells. The body’s ability to regenerate muscle is vital for recovery from injuries and regular maintenance of muscle strength. While skeletal muscle can regenerate efficiently, severe damage or chronic conditions can impair this process.
