Sitaxentan
Sitaxentan is a medication used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, a condition where high blood pressure occurs in the arteries of the lungs. It works by blocking certain receptors (called endothelin receptors) that cause blood vessels to narrow. By preventing this narrowing, sitaxentan helps improve blood flow and reduces the workload on the heart. It was taken orally and prescribed for severe cases of this condition, but it was withdrawn from the market in 2010 due to safety concerns, particularly liver toxicity. Overall, sitaxentan was part of targeted therapy to manage complex vascular diseases of the lungs.
