Sirius (star)

Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, is the brightest star visible from Earth in our night sky. Located in the constellation Canis Major, it is approximately 8.6 light-years away, making it one of the closest stars to us. Sirius is actually a binary system, composed of a main-sequence star (Sirius A) and a smaller white dwarf companion (Sirius B). Its intense brightness results from its intrinsic luminosity and proximity to Earth. Sirius has been significant in various cultures and is easily recognizable, helping stargazers navigate the night sky.
