Sirius (dog)
Sirius is a bright star in the constellation Canis Major, often called the "Dog Star" because of its position in the "greater dog" constellation. It is the closest bright star to Earth, located about 8.6 light-years away. Sirius is actually a binary star system, consisting of a main sequence star (Sirius A) and a white dwarf companion (Sirius B). Its exceptional brightness and prominence in the night sky have made it significant in various cultures and astronomy. Sirius's proximity and luminosity make it a key point of reference in celestial navigation and sky observation.
