Sir Sandford Fleming was a Canadian engineer and inventor best known for creating worldwide time zones. In the 1800s, he proposed dividing the Earth’s surface into 24 time zones, each one hour apart, to standardize time for global travel and communication. This idea laid the foundation for the modern system of timekeeping used worldwide today. Fleming’s innovations also included work on railways and the design of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s schedule. His contributions significantly improved the way people coordinate activities across different regions, facilitating international travel, trade, and communication.
