Sir John Murray
Sir John Murray was a pioneering Scottish oceanographer and geologist, known as the "father of oceanography." In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he conducted extensive research on the ocean floor, studying its sediments and the organisms living there. He was instrumental in promoting the concept of oceanic exploration, leading expeditions that collected vital data about marine environments. His influential work, including the "Challenger Report," helped lay the foundations for modern ocean science, illuminating the importance of oceans in Earth’s systems and contributing to our understanding of marine biodiversity and geology.
