Sir Hugh Munro
Sir Hugh Munro was a Scottish mountaineer and climber who, in 1891, created the first comprehensive list of the highest peaks in Britain, called "Munros." This list cataloged mountains over 3,000 feet (914.4 meters) and became a popular challenge for hikers, known as "Munro bagging." His work significantly influenced outdoor enthusiasm and hillwalking culture in the UK, encouraging people to explore and appreciate the country’s rugged landscapes. Munro’s contributions helped formalize mountain classification and inspired generations of outdoor enthusiasts to hike, explore, and connect with nature.
