Sir Henry McMahon

Sir Henry McMahon was a British diplomat who, during World War I, communicated with Arab leaders to gain their support against the Ottoman Empire, which controlled much of the Middle East. In his correspondence, known as the McMahon-Hussein Letters, he promised to support Arab independence in exchange for their help in the war. However, the details and later promises led to disagreements and disputes over territory, especially when other agreements, like the Sykes-Picot Agreement, conflicted with these promises. McMahon's role significantly influenced the post-war division of Middle Eastern territories and the Arab World's aspirations for independence.
