Sir Henry Darcy

Sir Henry Darcy was a French engineer best known for discovering the relationship between water flow rate and the properties of the medium it moves through, now called Darcy’s Law. This law helps predict how fluids like water or oil pass through porous materials such as soil or rock. Essentially, it states that the flow rate depends on the pressure difference, the permeability of the material, and the fluid's viscosity. Darcy's work is fundamental in hydrology, petroleum engineering, and environmental science, providing a scientific basis for managing groundwater, oil recovery, and filtering processes.
