Sir Ambrose Heal

Sir Ambrose Heal (1872–1957) was a British designer, furniture expert, and influential figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. He played a key role in promoting quality craftsmanship and modern design in the early 20th century. As director of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s furniture department, he helped establish standards for furniture design and preservation. Heal also founded furniture companies that emphasized well-made, functional pieces. His work balanced aesthetic appeal with practicality, shaping modern British design and encouraging the appreciation of fine craftsmanship in everyday objects.
