Simulacrum

A simulacrum is a representation or imitation of a person, object, or idea that may not carry the original's true meaning or value. It can be a copy that looks like the real thing but might lack authenticity, or it can be a symbol that replaces reality altogether. For example, a cartoon version of a famous monument or a virtual avatar can serve as simulacra—they mimic reality but don't fully capture its original essence. The concept is often used in philosophy and art to discuss how copies can sometimes replace or distort the reality they imitate.
