SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India)

The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is an organization founded in 1977 that originated as a student group promoting Islamic cultural and religious interests. Over time, it has been associated with advocating for Muslim rights and, in some instances, has been linked to activities classified as radical or extremist by governments. SIMI operates primarily in India, aiming to mobilize Muslim youth through various educational and social programs. Due to concerns over security and extremism, Indian authorities have banned SIMI since 2001, citing its involvement in terrorist activities, although its core aim remains rooted in religious and social advocacy.
