Microsoft Silverlight is a framework similar to Adobe Flash that enables developers to create rich, interactive multimedia experiences for the web. It allows for the development of complex features like animations, videos, and dynamic user interfaces that run directly in a web browser. Silverlight supports multiple programming languages, mainly C# and Visual Basic, making it versatile for developers. Although once popular for building interactive web applications, Silverlight's usage declined as HTML5 and other modern standards became more widely supported across browsers without needing additional plugins.
