Silver halide
Silver halides are chemical compounds made of silver combined with halogen elements like chlorine, bromine, or iodine. These compounds are sensitive to light, meaning they change when exposed to it. In photography, silver halide crystals are used in film to capture images: light exposure causes a chemical change in the crystals, forming a pattern that can be developed into a photograph. When processed with chemicals, the exposed silver halides are reduced to metallic silver, creating the visible image. Their light-sensitive properties make them essential in traditional photographic processes.
