Silver gelatin prints

Silver gelatin prints are traditional photographic prints made using a paper coated with a light-sensitive gel containing silver salts. During exposure to light inside a camera or via a print from a negative, these salts react and form a latent image. When developed in chemicals, the silver particles emerge, creating a detailed, durable black-and-white image. This process, popular from the late 19th to mid-20th century, produces images with rich tonal range and fine detail. Silver gelatin printing is prized for its permanence and the quality of its grayscale tones, making it a standard in fine art photography.
