Sikh Misls
Sikh Misls were autonomous warrior confederacies that emerged in the 18th century in Punjab, after the decline of Mughal authority. Each Misl was led by a chief and operated as a semi-independent military and political unit, defending Sikh interests and territory. They united temporarily to fight common enemies but maintained their own leadership and resources. The Misls played a key role in shaping Sikh identity and laid the groundwork for the eventual establishment of the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Their organization showcased a blend of military prowess, community solidarity, and regional governance.
