Siege of Londonderry
The Siege of Londonderry (1689–16899) was a major event during the Williamite War in Ireland, where Protestant defenders held the city of Londonderry (Derry) against a Catholic Jacobite army supporting King James II. The city was under siege for over 100 days, with shortages of food and supplies, but the defenders, aided by reinforcements and strategic efforts, resisted until relief forces arrived. The siege ended with a victory for William of Orange, strengthening his control over Ireland and marking a significant shift in the conflict’s outcome.
