Siege of Groningen
The Siege of Groningen occurred in 1594 during the Eighty Years' War, when Dutch forces, seeking independence from Spain, surrounded and blockaded the city of Groningen, which was controlled by Spanish troops. The Dutch aimed to weaken the Spanish hold and support the broader revolt. The siege lasted several months, during which the Dutch cut off supplies and attempted to force the Spanish defenders to surrender. Ultimately, the Spanish garrison capitulated, giving the Dutch strategic control of the city. This event was part of the larger struggle for Dutch independence from Spanish rule.
