Siege of Aleppo
The Siege of Aleppo was a lengthy and intense military blockade during Syria’s civil war, primarily from 2012 to 2016. Opposing forces, including government troops and rebel groups, fought over control of Syria’s largest city. The siege involved widespread bombing, street fighting, and blockades that cut off supplies, resources, and aid, causing immense suffering for civilians. It resulted in significant destruction of infrastructure and a humanitarian crisis. Ultimately, government forces recaptured Aleppo in late 2016, shifting the city’s strategic and symbolic importance in the ongoing conflict.
