Sidechain Compression

Sidechain compression is an audio processing technique where the volume of one sound (the "main" signal) is automatically reduced whenever another specific sound (the "trigger" signal) is present. For example, in electronic music, the bass line's volume might decrease each time the kick drum hits, creating a rhythmic pulsing effect. This is achieved by using the trigger signal to control a compressor that adjusts the main sound’s volume in real-time. Sidechain compression helps create space in a mix, prevent sounds from clashing, and add dynamic, rhythmic interest.
