Sidama people

The Sidama are an ethnic group primarily residing in southern Ethiopia, known for their rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community. They speak the Sidamigna language and are mostly engaged in farming, cultivating coffee, grains, and enset (false banana). Traditionally organized into clans, the Sidama have a distinct social structure and rituals. They are recognized for their vibrant festivals, musical traditions, and craftsmanship. In recent years, they gained political autonomy, establishing the Sidama Regional State within Ethiopia, reflecting their desire for self-governance and preservation of their cultural identity.
