Sickle Cell Foundation
The Sickle Cell Foundation is an organization dedicated to raising awareness, supporting individuals affected by sickle cell disease, and promoting better healthcare. Sickle cell disease is a genetic condition where red blood cells, which usually are round and flexible, become misshapen like a crescent or sickle. These abnormal cells can block blood flow, causing pain, infections, and organ damage. The foundation provides education, screening, counseling, and resources to improve the quality of life for patients and their families, while working to increase understanding and research to find better treatments and ultimately a cure.
