Shugendō
Shugendō is a traditional Japanese spiritual practice that blends elements of Shinto, Buddhism, and mountain worship. It emphasizes the pursuit of spiritual power through ascetic training, rituals, meditation, and communion with nature, especially mountains regarded as sacred. Practitioners, called yamabushi, seek to attain enlightenment, healing, and harmony with nature by engaging in physical challenges and spiritual rituals. Shugendō has historically been practiced in mountain regions, viewing mountains as gateways to the divine and sources of spiritual energy. It promotes personal growth, spiritual insight, and respect for the natural world.
