Shot clock

A shot clock is a time limit in basketball that specifies how long a team has to attempt a shot after gaining control of the ball. Typically set at 24 seconds, the shot clock ensures continuous play by preventing teams from holding the ball indefinitely. When a team gains possession, the clock starts running; they must attempt a shot that hits the rim within this period. If they don't, the opposing team gains possession. The shot clock helps maintain pace, promotes offensive action, and prevents stalling strategies, making the game more exciting and dynamic.
