Shoreline stabilization
Shoreline stabilization involves methods used to prevent erosion and protect the land along coastlines, lakes, or rivers from wearing away due to wave action, currents, or storms. Techniques include natural approaches like planting vegetation that holds soil, as well as structural solutions such as building seawalls, riprap (rock barriers), or groynes to absorb or deflect wave energy. The goal is to maintain the shoreline’s shape, protect ecosystems, property, and infrastructure, and minimize the impact of natural forces on land adjacent to water bodies.
