A shootout is a method used to determine a winner when a game ends in a tie, especially in sports like hockey and soccer. After regulation and extra time, if the score is still tied, individual players take turns trying to score against the goalkeeper, often in a one-on-one situation. Each team gets a set number of attempts. The team with the most goals after all attempts is declared the winner. Shootouts are designed to add excitement and decisiveness to competing events.
