Shockable rhythms

Shockable rhythms are specific abnormal heartbeats that can be effectively treated with an electric shock to restore a normal heartbeat. These rhythms include ventricular fibrillation (where the heart's lower chambers quiver chaotically) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia (rapid, ineffective heartbeats). When these occur, they prevent the heart from pumping blood properly, risking death. Delivering an electric shock (defibrillation) can reset the heart’s electrical system, allowing it to regain a normal rhythm. Recognizing and treating shockable rhythms quickly is critical for survival, which is why automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are used in emergencies.
