Shmita
Shmita is a Jewish biblical practice observed every seven years, during which land in Israel is rested and left to recover. Farmers refrain from planting, cultivating, or harvesting crops, allowing the soil to rejuvenate naturally. This cycle promotes environmental sustainability, social equity, and spiritual reflection. In addition to agricultural laws, Shmita encourages debt cancellation and redistribution of land, fostering communal harmony. Beyond its religious roots, many see it as a reminder of responsible stewardship of the earth and the importance of balance between human activity and nature.
